Music Lesson FAQs

  1. Where are lessons held?

Lessons are conducted in person at 2112 Percussion in Raleigh, NC. The address is 5250 Capital Blvd Raleigh, NC 27616. Virtual lessons are also available via Zoom.

2. How much are lessons?

Lessons are $140 per month for half hour lessons and $280 per month for hour long lessons. Payments are processed via debit card through the processing platform Fons.

3. What ages do you teach?

Typically, I teach between the ages of 7-80! Any kid under the age of 8 will be screened to see if they are ready to take on private lessons at my discretion.

4. Do you offer a free trial lesson?

I offer a free consultation upon our first meeting. This is different from a lesson because this time will be used to evaluate where you are in your musical journey and to see if the student and I will be a good fit. The consultation will last anywhere between 20-30 minutes.

5. What instruments do you teach?

I offer lessons on piano and percussion instruments which include snare drum, drum set and mallet percussion. I also offer lessons in jazz studies, improvisation and theory/composition for other instrumentalist.

6. How much notice do I need to give before I quit lessons?

Notification by the last day of the current calendar month will be necessary. The best way to do this is by email or in Fons. Any lessons remaining in the month will not be refunded.

 7. What is the cancellation policy?

Lessons canceled by the student will be allowed to schedule a virtual makeup lesson the last week of the month. Any lessons canceled by me will still be made up or prorated into the next month.

8. Do you offer in-home lessons?

Unfortunately, I do not offer in-home lessons. The two best options are in person at 2112 Percussion or virtually via Zoom.

9.Can I sit in on my child’s lesson?

Yes! I encourage parents to sit in at least occasionally to get a grasp of what the student is working on. However, you know your child best so I leave it up to you.

10. Do I need a full drum set to take drum lessons?

No, you do not need a full drum set to start drum lessons. Students can start lessons by using a practice pad which typically costs between $20-$50.

12. How much practice should my child do each week?

I recommend a minimum of 15 minutes per day, four-five days per week. Although this is the absolute minimum recommendation, students will progress faster and remember more if they are able to practice more often. Shorter but more frequent practice sessions will result in faster progress over a shorter period of time. For young children, parental supervision is highly encouraged!

13. What materials do I need for the lesson?

To begin, every student will need a notebook and pencil to take notes. Although each student will be assigned a Google Drive folder for weekly objectives and resources, some music notes are better left on paper or manuscript. Books and other resources will eventually have to be purchased occasionally.

Additional materials will include drumsticks and brushes for drummers and mallets for mallet percussionists.
